Erik Steffensen, born in Copenhagen in 1961, is a distinguished Danish artist whose work spans photography and painting. He lives and works in Copenhagen, Læsø, and Vemmetofte. Steffensen studied Art History and Philosophy at the University of Copenhagen before graduating from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1992. From 1998 to 2007, he served as a professor at the Academy.
Steffensen’s work is celebrated for its exploration of permanence and impermanence through vivid landscape photography. His images, often enhanced with colored oil on gelatin silver prints, capture the essence of diverse locales, from familiar European landscapes to remote regions like Greenland and Nepal. His art is held in prestigious collections, including ARKEN Museum of Modern Art, ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
