Lisa Ledson's "Little Hands" series is a heartfelt exploration of the innocence and joy of childhood, juxtaposed with the hurried nature of adult life. Using acrylic on wood, Ledson captures the essence of children at play through the simplest lines and forms, creating abstract figurative pieces that resonate deeply with viewers.
"Little Hands is an abstract figurative series that, through the simplest of line and form, aims to capture the purity of children at play," Ledson explains. "The adults in this series are always rushing to and from and are too busy to play. I wanted to capture the emotion and simplicity of these dynamics and moments that we all know.” Each piece in the series invites us to reflect on our own childhood experiences and the universal moments of connection that transcend time and culture.
Ledson is inspired by John Keats' idea that art can transcend death and inspire future generations. "Keats’ quote to me speaks to how art can transcend death and live on forever—to inspire future generations. To me, the things in life that connect us all are found in the simplest of human emotions and parent-child dynamics. Truth and beauty are found in these simple moments between humans that span all cultures and generations."
In "Little Hands," there's a timeless beauty in the simplicity of a child pushing a ball to a parent, hoping to play, or running to catch up with a sibling. These moments, captured in Ledson's unique style, are universally understood and resonate deeply, much like ancient hieroglyphics on a cave wall. "This series will live on forever and will forever be understood by all generations to come."
"This is a series that is very dear to my heart and has a very timeless energy about it," Ledson adds, emphasizing the personal significance and emotional depth of the series.
"Little Hands" stands as a testament to the enduring power of simple, heartfelt moments, immortalized through art to connect and inspire across generations.
