Title: The Eight & Ten Society Presents Beauty is Truth: A New Online Art Exhibition. Inspired by the works of the Romantic Poets and Philosophers.
The Eight & Ten Society is proud to announce the launch of an online art exhibition, Beauty is Truth. This captivating exhibition features a range of newly commissioned artworks inspired by the enduring words of Romantic poet John Keats and his contemporaries. With an online opening scheduled for 6 June 2024, the exhibition explores the profound connection between beauty, truth, and the human experience as echoed through the words of the Romantic movement.
Inspired by the philosophical musings of Immanuel Kant and the lyrical poetry of Keats, particularly his immortal lines from Ode on a Grecian Urn, "Beauty is truth, truth beauty, —that is all / Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know," this exhibition delves into the universal appeal and intrinsic value of beauty. Kant's assertion that "Beautiful is what, without a concept, is liked universally" frames the thematic approach taken by the artists in their creative process.
In late 2023, The Eight and Ten Society embarked on a collaborative journey with several distinguished artists, encouraging them to reflect on the Romantic ideals of the 18th century. Each artist engaged deeply with quotes from seminal figures such as Friedrich Schiller, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Lord Byron, culminating in a body of work that is both a tribute and a personal response to the challenge of encapsulating Romanticism in contemporary art.
The online format of Beauty is Truth allows viewers from around the globe to experience the unique interpretations of each artist, who through their diverse mediums express their individual understanding of the linkage between beauty and truth. The exhibition promises not only to be a visual feast but also an intellectual exploration of how these age-old concepts resonate in today's world.
Join us online to celebrate this artistic endeavor, where each piece invites contemplation and offers insight into the universal and enduring relevance of Romantic thought. The exhibition is accessible from 6 June 2024 until 31 August 2024 at 8and10society.com and is free for all visitors.
